The Tanaka Fund Program (AUCC-Administered)
The Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC) administers The Tanaka Fund for Japanese-Language Education. This program is open to all member institutions of the AUCC and the awards are distributed through annual competitions.
History
The Tanaka Fund began in 1974 with an exchange of gifts between the governments of Canada and Japan, and has been administered as an endowment by the AUCC since 1975. The amount of money available varies, but it has averaged $60,000 in recent years.
The Tanaka Fund Program provides institutional support for the enhancement of Japanese-language study opportunities in Canadian universities. It aspires to promote and help improve Japanese-language education, and to support institutional program development. A maximum of $76,000 may be awarded annually.
