Training for Japanese-Language Teachers Abroad
Training Programs for Leading Teachers of the Japanese Language
1) Graduate Program on Japanese-Language and Culture (Master's Course)
This program is designed to provide teachers of the Japanese language abroad, and/or individuals who have experience in teaching the Japanese-language abroad, who are expected to be leaders of the academic world of Japanese-language education in their own countries, with an opportunity to obtain a Master’s degree in Japanese-language education. This program is offered at two institutions: The Japan Foundation Japanese-Language Institute, Urawa, and The National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS). Applications from individuals are acceptable.

2) Graduate Program on Japanese-Language and Culture (Doctor's Course)
The program is designed to provide teachers of the Japanese language abroad and/or individuals who have experience in teaching the Japanese language in overseas Japanese language institutions with an opportunity to complete a three-year doctoral course in Japanese language education with the aim of developing them as future leaders of the academic world of Japanese-language education in their own countries.
Apart from the Japan Foundation Japanese-Language Institute (JFJLI), the Program is being implemented in collaboration with the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) and is structured with an advanced and practical curriculum. 3) Advanced Training Program for Teachers of the Japanese-Language
This Program is designed for individuals or teams of up to 3 people who require more advanced expertise and skills as teachers of Japanese, and have specific challenges they wish to address, or have issues they want to resolve in the teaching of the Japanese language.

Training Programs for Teachers of the Japanese-Language

The following programs' grantees are invited to Japan and stay at the Japan Foundation Japanese Language Institute, Urawa (Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture)

1) Long-Term Training Program for Foreign Teachers of the Japanese-Language
This program is designed to provide teachers of the Japanese language abroad with an opportunity to improve their Japanese language skills and teaching methodology and to deepen their knowledge of Japan for 6 months.

2) Short-Term Training Program for Foreign Teachers of the Japanese Language
This program is designed to provide teachers of the Japanese language abroad with an opportunity to improve their Japanese language skills and teaching methodology and to deepen their knowledge of Japan for 2 months.

Japanese-Language Programs for Specialists
Program for Specialists in Cultural and Academic Fields
This program provides specialists (Researchers, Postgraduate Students, Librarians, Museum Curators, etc.) who need a good command of Japanese language for conducting their field-related work and research with course of Japanese-Language specifically designed for their needs.
