Overview:

Japanese-language education support overseas is one of the central activities of the Japan Foundation. It plays a key role in promoting Japanese-language education in Canada through its various activities:

  • Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT), held annually in Toronto, Edmonton and Vancouver
  • Japanese-Language Education programs, including professional development courses for Japanese-language teachers, Japanese-language courses for specialists, donations of education resources, support for speech contests, network development and institutional support
  • Workshops for professional development
  • Local grants to Canadian educational institutions

Independent Research Program for Teachers of Japanese Language
  • The Independent Research Program at the Japan Foundation Japanese-Language Institute, Urawa (JFJLI, Urawa), or Kansai (JFJLI, Kansai) is a residential program (from five days to one month) during which Japanese-language teachers may utilize the resources at the JFJLI in order to solve specific challenges or issues relevant to teaching the Japanese language (e.g. the development of Japanese teaching materials, teaching methods, curricula). Both native and non-native speakers of Japanese are eligible to apply for this program. More information

Local Grant Programs
  • This program is intended to promote Japanese-language education in Canada by providing support to a wide range of activities essential to the dissemination of Japanese-language and the development of Japanese-language education. More information
