Additional Japan Foundation Programs

The Japan Foundation conducts additional programs in Canada that are by invitation only. Other programs, which are not open to application from Canada but to applicants in other countries, such as the U.S. and Japan, may be of interested to partners in Canada.

Application from U.S. and ODA countries

Performing Arts Japan for North America (Application from U.S. and Canada)
One of the primary objectives of Performing Arts Japan (PAJ) is to support the introduction of Japanese performing arts with evenly planned geographic coverage in Canada and the U.S. For details, please visit the Performing Arts Japan page.

Graduate Program on Japanese Language and Culture (Master's Course) (open to individuals from *ODA-recipient countries, Czech Republic and Hungary)
This program is designed to provide teachers of the Japanese language abroad and/or those who have experience in teaching the Japanese language abroad, who are expected to be leaders in the academic field of Japanese-language education in their own countries with the opportunity to obtain a Master's degree in Japanese-language education. Grant Program for Cultural Presentation Abroad (Application from Japan)
Funds are provided to help individuals and groups who carry out projects to introduce Japanese culture outside of Japan on a short-term basis.

Grant Program for Cultural Heritage (Application from Japan)
This program provides financial assistance for international collaborative projects such as conferences, workshops, seminars and training program that aim to contribute to human resource development and international networking of practitioners in the field of cultural heritage.

Grant Program for Cultural Exchange at the Grassroots Level (Application from Japan)
Grants are provided to facilitate grassroots level international exchange events initiated by citizen/ youth groups to promote mutual understanding between Japan and abroad.

Exhibitions in Japan Support Program (Application from Japan)
The Japan Foundation cooperates with concerned institutions or museums in Japan to sponsor exhibitions or superior art and culture from various foreign countries that have limited opportunity of being shown in Japan.

Grant Program for Overseas Performances (Application from Japan)
This program helps to cover expenses for outstanding Japanese performing arts groups who present performing arts outside Japan.

Grant Program for Film Festival in Japan (Application from Japan)
This program is designed to provide financial assistance to international film festival and screenings in Japan that introduce foreign films, video works, and TV programs.

Grant Program for NGO-Assisted Japanese-Language Education (Application from Japan)
This program provides partial financial assistance for domestic non-profit and non-governmental organisations engaged in activities to support Japanese-language education overseas.

Grant Program for Participation in International Conferences (Dispatch) (Application from Japan)
This program is designed to partly cover expenses for specialists who are invited to serve as masters of ceremonies or to give keynote addresses at international conferences or symposiums held outside Japan.

Grant Program for Participation in International Conferences (Invitation) (Application from Japan)
Funds are provides to invite specialists from all over the world who are to play a major role (e.g. to deliver a keynote address or to present a paper) at international intellectual forums held in Japan.
